![]() This port town is well known for its ocean-side view, beautiful architecture, friendly people, as well as its Chocolate Chipped Cream Sundae Supreme.ĭuring the beginning of Sonic Unleashed, Apotos' continent was torn away from the earth's mantle when Dr. It also has a strong resemblance to the Greek city of Santorini. ![]() ![]() It is based on the Cycladic-styled architecture of Greek cities, and its windmills are derived from the Greek island of Mykonos. Forces is worse just by virtue of having literally nothing of value throughout the entire game. The continent Apotos is located on, from the Wii/ PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed.Īpotos is a small town located in Greece, at the tip of an European peninsula. But on new save file holy shit Sonic Unleashed is fucking bad give me Sonic 06 over it any day. S ranking the main daytime stages is a fun rewarding experience. Now, on a completed save file where you can select what levels you want? Sonic Unleashed has value and there's fun to be had there. I would rather replay Sonic 06 5 times in a row than be forced to play the gutter trash that Unleashed throws at you. The absolute horseshit you have to put up with throughout the course of the game is worse than anything in any other Sonic game. ![]() Sonic Unleashed imo is the absolute worse mainline Sonic game to play from a new save file. Sonic or Werehog the side acts are almost all complete trash horrible level design and you're forced to play them so you can have enough medals to progress. What it does is force you to play the ABSOLUTE FUCKING GARBAGE side acts. And you know what? I wasn't even speeding through the levels ignoring collectibles! You can be actively taking your sweet time in those Werehog stages trying to get as many medals as you can along the way and STILL have a ridiculous amount of medals still required to unlock that stage. That feeling when you see how many medals are required to unlock the daytime Adabat level. The absolute worst thing about Sonic Unleashed is the medal collecting gating. I mean, visually it still remains the best Sonic game, the day stages finally were a perfect blueprint for an engaging 3D Sonic gameplay style, the human style choice perfectly fit Sonic's world, the soundtrack and CGI cutscenes are the best the series has ever had, it has the best boss fight of the franchise (Egg Dragoon) and the story had just the right tone. I think had the werehog stages been Knuckles ones instead, still focusing on the slower pace and combat but maybe cutting down the amount of enemy encounters, increasing the pace (levels don't need to be 30+ mins each) and adding puzzle elements instead, it would have been seen in a more positive light. Werehog wasn't great, but I'd be ok with it were I able to listen to the absolutely incredible night stage songs properly.īack when I first played Unleashed I didn't like it, but as time has gone on I've begun to appreciate what it offered a lot more. Specifically I want to see a PC port of Unleashed so that someone can mod out the excessively dumb design decision to restart that one werehog combat song every single time a new enemy set spawns (every 5 seconds). It’s a bit much to start proclaiming that someone doesn’t understand how budgets work - especially when even the presence of alternative versions, secondary media, and so on, indicate that money was invested into the project and is additive to the perception that the game had a large budget. On top of that Classic Sonic had gameplay that required far less attention than developing an entirely different game within the project like the Wherehog did with its God of War inspired combat mechanics. We’d been told that the PS2/Wii versions of Unleashed were what allowed it to be break even, and generations leveraged much of the up front investments of Unleashed w reduced scope, development time, and headcount! Sonic Colors was confirmed as having a 10 million budget. Unleashed recieved 6-7 expansion packs with 40 some odd new levels. Oh right, it had a single limited DLC expansion. Sonic Generations had noticeably worse and less CG, less voice acting, worse arrangements, no live orchestra use, no expensive CGI short, less levels, no open world environments (replaced by a simplistic 2D area) and initially only released on PS3/360/3DS before getting a PC port (a large réduction in the amount of platforms supported) - all on budget pricing.
